Hard by the Chesapeake Bay on Maryland's Kent Island, artist and woodworker Tom Gauntt designs and builds truly unique and personal hand-turned pens and other items. Tom thrives on collaborating with individuals to create pens that are more than writing instruments.
Tom started woodworking in his grandfather's workshop when he was six years old and has been busy creating something ever since. From bookcases to watercolor paintings to robots, Tom stays busy in the shop. His latest passion has been turning items from recovered Chesapeake Bay driftwood. Tom especially enjoys working with individuals to create a wonderfully unique and personally meaningful writing instruments. He has created pens from a cherished cherry tree in North Carolina to a century-old barn on a family homestead in Maine to piece of wood recovered from Hemingway's house in Key West.
